Notorious dacoit, his two associates arrested

Mumbai, Aug 14 (UNI) In a major breakthrough, Crime Branch Detection sleuths have nabbed a notorious criminal and his two associates from village Kopardi Tal in Karad yesterday.

Addressing mediapersons here today, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria said they have held Suresh Bhaurao Shinde alias Surya, leader of 35-member gang, and his two associates -- Kalyan Shiva Shinde alias Dalya (22) and Rajendra Baban Kale alias Pintya (20) -- in several cases of dacoity and house-breaking.

Their arrest is a major success for the city police because in the last couple of months the dacoity and house-breaking incidents had increased.

He said during interrogation, the accused admitted that they had committed robbery at several places in the metropolis like Tardeo, Santacruz, Chembur, Pantnagar, Borivali, Malad, Navi Mumbai, and other places such as Osmanabad and Uttar Pradesh. From June 10 to 19, they had committed dacoity and house-breaking at Chembur, Vashi, Airoli, Juinagar, Thane (murder-cum-dacoity) and Pantnagar daily.

Mr Maria said Shinde has a criminal record since 1991 and has 18 chargesheeted cases against him. He was shown an absconder in four cases. After he came out on bail in January this year, he had reorganised his gang of Phardhi community from Osmanabad district and nearby areas and committed 12 offences since then.

They used chopper, knives and other tools for breaking doors, grills and latches, he informed.

They were produced before 37th Metropolitan Magistrate court this afternoon, which remanded them to police custody till August 27, he added.
