Legislation for IIMs autonomy

New Delhi, Aug 14: The Goverment is considering enacting a law to specify the extent of financial and administrative autonomy of the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh informed the Lok Sabha today.

The legislation will be on the lines of the Indian Institutes of Technology Act, 1961, Mr Singh said during Question Hour.

CRIME: A total of 1,55,553 cases of crime against women and 14,975 cases against children were reported during 2005, Minister of State for Home Affairs Manikrao Gavit said.

During 2004, the figures were 1,54,333 and 14,423, respectively, he said.

WOMEN WELFARE: The Central Social Welfare Board proposes to have at least two family counselling centres for women in all districts by the end of XIth Plan.

As many as 60 family counselling centres will be opened during 2007-08, Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury said.
