Left Govt destroying education sector: Chandy

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 14 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Oommen Chandy today alleged that the Left Democratic Front Government was trying to destroy the general education sector through its wrong policies.

Talking to newspersons here, he alleged the higher education sector was already in shambles as the Government polices had only helped the education lobby in the neighbouring states.

Mr Chandy said the Government decision to give more powers to the local bodies in the administration of schools would further spoil the sector.

He denied the charge made by Education Minister M A Baby that it was during the tenure of the previous Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) Government that a decision was taken to hand over the administration of schools to local bodies.

He alleged that the Government was trying to totally withdraw from the general education sector by 2010 when the tenure of the World Bank assistance would come to an end.
