IPTV launched in Kolkata

Kolkata, Aug 14 (UNI) Targeting a customer base of 1.75 lakh this fiscal, Internet Protocol TV (IPTV)-- a multiplay broadband service-- was launched in Kolkata today.

Telecommunication Additional Secretary R Bandopadhyay formally launched the service, which would be operational in four places at the beginning.

Today IPTV was simultaneously launched also in Bangalore.

Earlier it was launched in Pune, Mumbai and New Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Calcutta Telphones Chief General Manager S K Chakraborty said the new service, was expected to earn a revenue of Rs. 17.5 crore in the next four months.

"We are expecting a customer base of 1.75 lakh this fiscal and the revnue earning is likely to the tune of Rs. 17.5 crore in the next four months," he said.

With Rs.250 per month, the IPTV digital signal would reach normal TV in houses through Smart Electronic Device(SED) and modem offering several benefits, including all broadcast channels, video conferencing, video on demand and video conferencing.
