Moga, Aug 14 (UNI) Police arrested a Gujarat-based quack on alleged charges of duping people on behalf of a bogus foundation here yesterday, police said today.

According to the police, Ajay Kumar, a resident of Rajgarh in Gujarat and his unidentified associate had duped people masquerading as experts in treatment of HIV and typhoid patients on behalf of a bogus foundation called 'Manav Vikas Jyoti Foundation' of Gujarat.

The associate however managed to escape, police said.

Police investigations revealed that after cheating people in Gujarat, the duo started a business in Punjab. They also cheated people in Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana. After arriving in Moga a few days back, they contacted people suffering from HIV and typhoid and collected fees from them for organising camps where they administered injections and medicines, police said.

The police also recovered about 500 cards from Kumar's possession bearing names of HIV and typhoid patients, from whom this two-member gang collected huge sums of money.

A case under sections 420 and 120 B of the IPC has been registered against the quack and his associate.
