Govt to issue new PAN cards: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Aug 14: The government proposes to replace the old PAN cards with a new bio-metric Pan card over a period of time but will allow the use of the old ones till the new cards are made.

Finance Minister P Chidambaram told the Rajya Sabha during Question Hour today that the government would soon introduce a new PAN card system.

All PAN cards issued after the introduction of the new cards would be bio-metric.

However, the lakhs of old cards which are already in use, would continue to be used till they are replaced.

The Minister, however, did not give any timeframe for changing the old cards to new ones saying it would be done over a period of time.
