Fresh flood affects four districts

Bhubaneswar, Aug 14 (UNI) Fresh flood wrought havoc as flood water submerged vast areas disrupting communications and affecting more than two lakh people in 234 villages spread over 13 blocks in four districts.

Bhadrak and Jajpur were the most affected as more than 1.5 lakh people were affected in these two districts alone during the last two days followed by Bolangir and Mayurbhanja.

Official sources here, however, said the rivers which were in spate following heavy rain in the upper catchment areas during the last few days started receding much to the relief of the people and the officials.

The Jajpur town was cut off from Jajpur town after the flood waters submerged the Sathipur-Jajpur road.

The communication between Bhadrakh-Aradi,Sendhpur-Dhamnagar and Dhamnagar- Bhandari Pokhari were snapped as these roads were submerged under water.

Official sources said more than 16 lakh people were affected, 18 people died in various flood and rain related incidents and crop lost over more than 1.50 lakh hecatres of land in the state till today this year since the flood first hit state state on August 4 last.
