Draft Content code for TV programmes may see changes: Dasmunsi

New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) The draft content code is not final and the Ministry may modify it keeping in view the views received on it, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told the Lok Sabha today.

Representations were still being received, he said, adding that the proposed Code had been posted on the website of the Ministry.

The Central Government has also constituted an Inter-ministerial Committee (IMC) to look into the violation of Programme and Advertising Codes prescribed under the Act and Rules framed thereunder, the Minister said.

TV channels and radio stations were held responsible for advertisements which were misleading or wrong.

He, however, added that the committee constituted for reviewing the Programme and Advertising Codes prescribed under the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act 1995 had not submitted its Report.

This comittee was also asked to draft a new content code and guidelines in order to give them greater specificity and details and introduce new provisions as found necessary as per contemporary community standard and to facilitate self regulation among the channels, he said.
