Better Quality Rations for Jawans
New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) The Government today decided upon a slew of measures to ensure qualitative as well as quantitative supply of rations to Jawans deployed in far-flung and difficult terrains.
Based on the recommendations of the Army, Defence Minister AK Antony has instructed higher prescriptions of rice and different kinds of pulses for the Jawans, an official spokesperson said here today.
The Defence Minister has also directed that better quality tea be procured in consultation with the Tea Board.
Furthermore, to improve the quality of milk being supplied to the Jawans in the far-flung areas of Northern and Eastern Commands, it has been decided that the same may be procured in Tetra packs from National/State Federations.
Similarly, improved packaging standards for edible oil have been prescribed. Besides, procurement of salt will be decentralised.
It is expected that these measures will go a long way in improving the quality of rations for the troops, the spokesperson observed.
