Atta-dal scheme: Markfed officials booked for pilferage

Patiala, Aug 14 (UNI) The Vigilance Bureau today booked Markfed officials for pilferage wheat stored for Atta Dal scheme in sealed godowns in Banur and Dera Bassi.

The SSP (VB) Shiv Kumar said Patiala registered a case of cheating and forgery and conspiracy against the District Manager of Markfed HS Bains and three other officials - Jaswinder Singh senior assistant, Vijay Kumar and Nasib Singh under sections 409, 420, 120-B of IPC and sections of Prevention of Corruption Act.

He said that the VB checked and sealed Markfed godowns in Banur and Dera Bassi following information that wheat stocked there for the atta-dal scheme was being pilfered and sold in the open market.

Markfed had recently stocked about one lakh sacks of wheat in these godowns for distribution to the beneficiaries of the atta-dal scheme.

Two teams of the Bureau found that many bags in the Banur godown were less than the stipulated 50 kg, with some weighing even les than 25 kg.

However, things were found to be in order in Dera Bassi godowns, the sources said.
