Puducherry, Aug 14 (UNI) The All India Youth Federation (AIYF) in Puducherry today criticised the reported statement of Chief Minister N Rangasamy that there was no unemployed youths in the Union Territory.

Addressing a press conference here, state AIYF secretary G Selvam pointed out that while 1.42 lakh youths had registered themselves with the employment exchange here, the administration had distributed only 12,000 applications to avail unemployment allowance, and that too after agitations by the AIYF.

He said five certificates, including the one to prove that the applicant's family did not have an annunal income of more than Rs 2000, 15 years of nativity and the applicant was unemployed had to be attached with the application form.

According to Mr Selvam when the youths approached the Tahsildar, he refused to issue any of the certificates stating that there was no intimation from the government in this regard.

The stiff conditions and the refusal of the Tahsildar to issue certificates only prevented the youths from applying for the allowance, he said adding the chief minister's statement that no youths had applied for the allowance was absolutely wrong.

If the government was really interested in providing the assistance to the youths, it should have slackened the conditions, he said adding that the strong conditions were laid to delibrately defeat the scheme.

He said the national training camp of AIYF would be held here from August 18 to 24, in which training on philosophy, international politics, economics, social issues and ways to strengthen AIYF would be imparted.
