3 Ashok Chakras to Security Personnel on I-Day 2007
New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) As many as three Ashok Chakras -- awarded for exceptional gallantry during peacetime -- have been bestowed upon security personnel -- who laid down their lives protecting the sovereignty and integrity of the country -- on the occasion of Independence Day 2007.
Besides, six Kirti Chakras -- of them four posthumous -- have been awarded on the occasion, it was officially announced here today.
Significantly, half of the six Kirti Chakras have been awarded to civilians -- all posthumously.
Of a total of 140 gallantry awards to Armed Forces and Coast Guard personnel and others announced on the occasion, others include 20 Shaurya Chakras, two Bars to Sena Medal (Gallantry), 99 Sena Medals (Gallantry), four Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry) and six Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry).
Also approved are one President's Tatrakshak Medal (Distinguished Service), two President's Tatrakshak Medals (Gallantry) and two Tatrakshak Medals (Meritorious) to Coast Guard personnel.
