Special 'Yojna' issue on Independence anniversary

New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will release a special issue of 'Yojana', along with an Audio CD of book '1857' by S N Sen for the visually challenged brought out by the Publications Division of the ministry.

Commemorating 150 years of the First War of Independence (1857) and 60th anniversary of India's Independence, the special issue of Yojana, published in 13 langauges, takes a journey through the landmark events that shaped the Indian economy.

It has broadly three sections. The first one is an economic critique of British colonialism, the second is on the issues concerning Indian economy since 1947 to present period and the third is on future growth strategy.

The rich collection of essays is by experts in their field. To name a few, the contributors are noted historians - Bipan Chandra, Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, Aditya Mukherji and also M S Swaminathan, (MP and Agriculture Scientist), O P Bhatt (SBI, Chairman), Madhav Chavan, (PRATHAM), Devaki Jain (Development Economist), Narayana N R Murthy (INFOSYS) and Azim Premji (WIPRO).

The Special issue has many attractions. It carries the new Yojana logo along with the new cover lay out. The front cover has a painting by the renowned artist Satish Gujral. The issue also carries a poem on '1857' by noted lyricist, Gulzar.

Yojana is a monthly devoted to socio-economic issues. It started its publication in 1957 with the blessings of then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Mr Khuswant Singh was the first Editor. The magazine is now published in 13 languages viz. English, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Assamese, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Oriya.

The journal, though an official venture. It tries to accommodate plurality of views and opinions on varied issues on national importance to give a balanced picture.

Yojana's endeavour has been to be a journal of mass circulation, to communicate with the common people in their languages and be available at a price they can afford.

On the occasion, the Publication Division is launching a new initiative in the field of book publishing. It has brought out an audio CD on the popular book '1857' for the visually challenged.

The audio CD has been especially designed to allow easy navigation between chapters, pages and even paragraphs. This would be extremely useful for the visually impaired who are deprived of such books on an important issue like 1857.
