Mayor condemns violence in MCD

New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) Mayor Arti Mehra today condemned the violence that broke out in the Town Hall during the day between councillors of the BJP and the BSP.

She said some newly-elected members could not stomach BJP's victory in the MCD elections and had ''acted in a pre-planned manner'' by resorting to cheap publicty to show their seriousness towards their demands to their leaders.

''The whole incident seems part of a conspiracy. The members wanted to show their leaders how vociferously they were making their point.'' The incident could have been brought under control much earlier had there been marshals present in the House, she added.

The House comprises 17 BSP, 164 BJP and 68 Congress members.
