Massive road construction in Kargil, engineer suspended
Srinagar, Aug 13 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir government has started a massive road construction and other development programmes in Kargil while an engineer was suspended and attached for using sub-standard material for reparing 40-km Kargil- Sankoo road.
Minister for Roads and Building (R&B) Gulchain Singh Charak gave on spot instructions to the Chief Engineer R&B, Kashmir to seek explanation from Assistant Executive Engineer of Suru Sub Division for using sub standard material for the reparing 40 km Kargil-Sankoo road.
The Minister also ordered the suspension and attachment of Junior Engineer, Sub-Division Sankoo with Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil.
Mr Charak directed the superintendent Engineer Kargil to remove all the sub-standard materials and issued strict instructions for using quality materials.
The Minister made an extensive tour of Suru valley of Kargil district and took stock of works being executed on the Kargil-Zanskar road besides reviewing other developmental works.
He said out of 234 KM Kargil-Zanskar road, the first 15 KM would be upgraded and black topped under state sector and rest of it would be upgraded under Central Road Funding.
He said that Rs 96 crore project has already been sent to the centre under Central road Funding for the upgradation of Kargil- Zanskar road.
Mr Charak said under PMGSY Phase-III, two schemes have been taken for the construction of link roads of Gongma Tangol-Analtik and Kamutul-Thuina at a cost of Rs 1.69 crores.
Similarly under the PMGSY Phase-IV, three link roads Sankarchet- Lankarchey Brok, Kanoor-Saltong and Yokma-Parkachik have been taken for construction at a cost of Rs 3.41 crore.
The Minister said under NABARD, 8 link roads have been taken in hand which include Khalamarpo-Chhumikchan, Nangma Kousar, Bartoo Shargandi, Kanoor-Sarchey, Namsuru Tangole, Gongmathang Kargee and Jamia Masjid Tai-Suru at a cost of Rs 9.08 cores.
He said 80 per cent of work on these schemes are complete. The government has also taken various ambitious development projects in Kargil district to build uniform infrastructure and to bring it at par with other districts of the state.
