New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) The Left parties today staged walk-out in the Lok Sabha after nearly sitting through Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's suo motu statement on the Indo-US nuclear deal delivered amid din of sloganeering by members of the BJP-led NDA and the UNPA.

As the pandemonium continued even after the Prime Minister left the House after reading out the eight-page statement in over half an hour, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee adjourned the House till tomorrow.

The Left MPs staged the walk-out only three minutes before Dr Singh concluded his statement, which could not be heard in the ruckus created by the opposition members as they continuously raised slogans asking the Congress-led coalition government to ''terminate'' the deal. The opposition asked the government not to indulge in ''chamchagiri(sycophancy)'' of the United States.

At 1433 hrs, Left floor leaders Basudeb Acharia, Rup Chand Paul, C K Chindrappan stood up, waving the copies of the statement and trooped out of the House along with party colleagues, singalling their rejection of the deal. To the discomfiture of the NDA members, who wanted Left MPs to join them in the uproarious protest in the well of the House, they, however, chose to ignore the invite and walked out.

When the Left members were leaving the House, the NDA MPs raised the decibel of their protest to mock at the Left.

By not joining the opposition's protest and staging the walk-out, the Left reiterated their position that they would be opposing the deal in their own way. Their walk-out also demonstrated that they did not want to be clubbed with the BJP which had given a notice for debate on the deal under rule 184 entailing voting in the House.

The CPI(M) today cancelled its media briefing coinciding with Dr Singh's statement which began at 1400 hrs.
