12 more granted bail in bomb blasts case

Coimbatore, Aug 13(UNI) The Bomb Blasts Special Court Judge K Uthirapathy today granted bail to 12 more accused in the serial bomb blasts case, which rocked the city on February 14, 1998.

The Judge granted bail to 12 accused after examining 38 bail applications taken for enquiry today. The Judge posted the enquiry of 21 bail applications for tomorrow and another five on August 20 next.

All the accused, who were granted bails, were involved in the case with minor charges for which they might get less than ten years punishment. So far 69 accused were given bail out of the total 158.

It may be recalled that 58 persons were killed and about 250 injured in 19 bomb explosions in the city on February 14, 1998. The bombs were timed to coincide with the visit of BJP leader L K Advani in connection with an election campaign. The damage to property in the blasts was estimated at Rs 4.37 crore.
