Unclaimed suitcase creates flutter at airport

Chennai, Aug 12 (UNI) An unclaimed suitcase created panic among the passengers and airport authorities at international airport terminal here early this morning.

Airport officials said bomb disposal squads were pressed into service and it was found that the suitcase contained about 20 sovereign of gold jewels and other cosmetic items.

Later, the suitcase was handed over to the airport authorities, the officials said, adding an investigation was on to trace the person, who left the suitcase at the airport.

Meanwhile, in connection with the Independence Day, the visitors were barred from the Anna International Terminal and Kamaraj Domestic Terminal at the Chennai Airport since Thursday midnight.

Officials said the ban would continue till midnight of August 17.

All vehicles entering the domestic and international terminals would be subjected to thorough checks.

Passengers and their luggages would also be checked thoroughly, they added.
