Three trampled to death by elephants in Assam

Guwahati, Aug 12 (UNI) A herd of wild elephants trampled to death three people and injured another two in Assam's Baksa district on Friday night.

Police sources here today informed that the incident took place near a SSB camp in Uttarkuchi village of Baganpara out-post, under Borbori police station, on the night of August 10.

Three villagers were killed on the spot and two others were rushed to hospital in a serious condition.

The wild pachyderms probably entered the village in search of food and went berserk damaging a few houses, sources said.

There have been reports of elephants entering human habitations in the state in search of food and attacking people. Many of these tuskers were killed by humans.
