Kathmandu, Aug 12 (UNI) With the passage of the Decoration Bill 2064 by State Affairs Committee of the Parliament, the right to award and bestow decorations by the state has been formally transferred to the Prime Minister from the King in Nepal.

The decorations include Titles, Decorations and Medals, which are of 26 types.

Until now, all decorations were provided by the King as head of state and were entitled in the name of the kings. The prefixes of the kings have also been removed from the decorations.

As per the provisions of the bill, the Prime Minister is entrusted to provide decorations on the recommendation of a nine-member committee, comprising Deputy Prime Minister or senior-most minister as coordinator, Home Minister as member and secretary at the ministry as member secretary.

Six other members for the committee will be fixed by the Council of Ministers, including a woman member as per inclusive principle.

The King has been made completely powerless after the success of the anti-king popular movement launched across the country to end his dictatorial regime and now has been suspended in the new interim constitution.
