NDA demands special central package for flood-hit Bihar

Patna, Aug 12 (UNI) Terming the flood scenario in Bihar as 'disastrous', the NDA today demanded a special relief package from the Centre.

It said the United Nations had already described the present natural calamity in the state as an 'unprecedented' one.

After an aerial survey of the flood-ravaged areas of the state, BJP national president Rajnath Singh and national president of JD (U) Sharad Yadav jointly told newspersons here that keeping in mind the vast dimension of the damage caused due to the floods, the Centre should immediately provide special relief and rehabilitation package for the flood-affected people of the state.

Accompanied by the state's cabinet ministers, both the leaders asked the Centre to immediately send a team to the flood-hit areas which should submit its detailed report within a week, so that it could also be tabled in the ongoing session of the Parliament.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had apprised them about the relief work taken up in the flood-ffected areas. Mr Singh said adding that he would discuss the issue with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and raise it in the parliament as well.

The leaders appealed to the poltical parties to cooperate in the relief work instead of ''drawing political mileage out of the situation''.

Expressing satisfaction over the ongoing relief work in the flood-hit areas they said the state government was sensituve enough towards the plight of the flood-affected people.

Later Mr Yadav dubbed the flood situation in Bihar as the 'worst' compared to other states like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Assam and Maharashtra. He further said that the political parties in other states were unitedly fighting against the natural calamity while it was 'unfortunate' that the parties in Bihar were trying to get political mileage out of it.
