Mrs Hooda celebrates Teej

Chandigarh, Aug 12 (UNI) The festival of Teej was celebrated with traditional fervour by the Haryana IAS Wives Association here today.

Mrs Asha Hooda, wife of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda who was the chief guest described this festival as a symbol of prosperity and of special significance for women.

She said that the onset of rainy season has enhanced the joy of this festival. Many traditions are associated with Teej and the celebration of this festival marks the beginning of a series of other festivals. She said that Teej is celebrated at a time when the greenery during the month of Shrawan reflects joy of plenty of crops.

Mrs Hooda said that despite moderanisation, we should not forget our traditional festivals. The pride of celebrating Teej could be felt from the fact that even today age old Haryanavi folk songs were being sung to describe the significance of this festival, she added.

Earlier, the President of the Association, Dr Saroj Prashant welcomed Mrs Hooda and others who had come to celebrate the festival. Mrs Hooda lit a traditional lamp to inaugurate the celebrations.

Dressed in colourful attires, Mrs Dheera Khandelwal and Mrs Jyoti Arora sang captivating songs like "Ab ke baras bhejo bhaya ko babul, sawan bhi bulay ray " and "hansta hua nurani chehra". Their performance was responded with thundering applause. A group folk song concerning the festival of "Kajri Teej" of the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh was sung by Dr Saroj Prashant and other members of the Association.

Similarly, a Rajasthani dance was also performed. Apart from this, Tambola and other funny competitions were also organised for the entertainment of the participants.

Mrs Hooda also gave away prizes to the winners.

Those present on the occasion included, Mrs Meenaxi Anand Chaudhary, Mrs Keshni Anand Arora, Mrs Promila Issar, Mrs Saroj Siwach, Mrs Neelam Pradeep Kasni, Mrs Satwanti Ahlawat and Mrs Sumita Misra.
