CM's policy will strangulate farmers: Mulayam

Lucknow, Aug 12: Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today opposed the contract farming policy of the Mayawati government and claimed that it will increase proverty and unemployment for the farmers and small traders in Uttar Pradesh.

He also opposed the 30 per cent reservation in the private sector through agreement saying it will not meet the desired results due to the opposition by the industry.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Yadav, who earlier said he will only speak against the Mayawati government till it completes six months in office, said'' how can I keep sitting when the state government was conspiring with the Multinationals to deprive the farmers''.

''The new policy of the government will only uplift two per cent of the farmers while 98 per cent people earning from the agriculture sector would be affected along with traders'', he claimed.

Announcing that the party will soon launch agitation against the anti-people policies launched by the BSP government, the former CM claimed the during his past regime not a single case of farmer suicide was reported and the state witnessed lowest loan ratio to the farmers in the country. But after the new policy the state will witness similar situation like Vidharba in Maharastra where daily three farmers are committing suicide.

''The contract farming policy was brought before me by the official thrice, but I had rejected it in the favour of the farmers'', Mr Yadav said adding that by this policy the government is trying to 'strangulate' the farmers and traders.

The SP leader was very critical over registering of fake cases against the SP leaders and workers.'' Till now fake criminal cases have been registered against more than 600 SP leaders and workers and it was unfortuante that a rape case has been lodged against my son and SP MP from Kannuaj Akhilesh Yadav and a seventy-year old former MLA'', he said.

''The present BSP government was targeting the SP leaders for political vendetta'', he added.

Though hoping that a new political scenario would emerge in the country before the next Lok Sabha polls, Mr Yadav said in UP people also will come out against the wrong policies of the state government very soon.

Lamenting over the withdrawal of the unemployment allowances scheme launched by the SP government, he said the present BSP government was not concerned about the youth and the 30 per cent reservation in the private sector would not yeild any results in giving them employment.
