Haryan Bijli Nigam to replace old cables

Chandigarh, Aug 12 (UNI) Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) has decided to replace all worn out cables and erect conductors of bigger size in view of the load growth of eight per cent during the 11th Plan period.

While stating this here today, a spokesman of the UHBVN said that most of the work would be completed under the Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme to ensure fault free service to the consumers. The feeder meters and single phase meteres or three phase meteres would also be installed under the scheme for the purpose of energy auditing and to minimize complaints of consumers.

The Nigam has instructed its Superintending Engineers to send proposals for bifurcations or trifurcations of lengthy and overloaded 11 KV level feeders under the schemes of National Capital Region (NCR) and Rural Electrification Corporation.

He said that the demand of electricity and load has been increasing due to rapid industrialisation and urbanisation in the area of NCR. Instructions had also been issued to speed up the campaign of disconnections against the non-payers and achieve the target of four lakh disconnections during the current year.

He said that the Nigam has also fixed a target to detect 40,000 cases of pilferage of power in its command area. Out of these, 6677 cases had been detected till July 31 last. It would be ensured that the First Information Reports were lodged within 24 hours against those found making theft of power.
