Eight thieves arrested
Bhopal, Aug 12: Eight thieves of an interstate gang have been arrested by the Madhya Pradesh police and 33 kg silver jewellery stolen from Begamganj in Raisen district, was recovered from them.
According to a release issued by police headquarters here today, the thieves broke the shutter of a jewellery shop in Ratlam on the intervening night of August 1-2 and stole themoney in the locker and the jewellery.
One accused, Jaswant, was arrested soon after the incident.
Satna Police sealed the area and seized the car used during the burglary on August 2. Two other accused, Deepak Sharma and Ravi alias Deepu, were arrested from Uttarakhand.
On the basis of information from those arrested, Pooran Singh was arrested from Faridabad in Haryana. Mangat Sardar, Raj Singh alias Veeru and Ashu Punjabi were arrested from Brajpur in Panna district.
Police said the accused used to travel during the day and carried out the theft in shops during the night. The gang's chieftain, Raj Singh, had committed similar thefts in Alwar district of Rajasthan.
A reward of Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,500 have been announced in Roorkee on the arrest of Raj Singh and Mangat Sardar respectively.
Several cases of thefts and dacoity had been registered against the robbers in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
