Cong wins in repolling in MC poll

Amritsar, Aug 12 (UNI) The Congress won the Municipal Corporation (MC) election from Ward No five, taking its tally in the 65-member house to 20.

The Congress candidates, Gurjit Singh defeated his SAD nominee from this ward. Repolling had been ordered in certain booths of this ward following violence during the MC polls on August eight.

Repolling in Ward No 5 alongwith certain booths of Ward No's 29 and 40 was held today. Counting in Wards No's 29 and 40 have been withdheld due to a petition filed in the Punjab and Haryan High court which will come up for hearing on August 20.

The SAD has 15 members and its ally the BJP has 17 members in the House. The CPI has one member while there are 10 independents.
