Old couple murdered in Hoshiarpur

Hoshiarpur, Aug 11 (UNI) An old couple was murdered by some unidentified robbers late last night at their house in Mohalla Tibba Sahib, police today said.

According to SSP Anita Punj, Gurmail Singh (70) and Amarjit Kaur (65), who lived alone as their children had settled abroad, were reportedly strangulated by robbers who entered the house after scaling the boundary wall. Injury marks were also found on the faces of the bodies, which have been sent for post mortem, she added.

Raids were being conducted at various places and police was also searching for a Nepali youth, watchman of the area, who had been missing from the last night, Ms Punj said.

Sniffer dog squad were requisitioned and finger prints taken from household articles which were found scattered in the room, she added.

The son of the couple, Yashpreet Singh lived in Canada while their married daughter Tejinder Kaur lived in the United Kingdom.

Gurmail Singh was an ex-employee of Punjab Roadways and had suffered a paralytic attack some time ago. His wife had recently returned after visiting her daughter in the UK.

The SSP said that a case under sections 460 of the IPC had been registered and some suspicious persons had also been rounded up for interrogation.
