206 'Romeos' arrested in police drive in UP

Lucknow, Aug 11: The Uttar Pradesh police have arrested 206 'Romeos' under 'operation Majnu' drive launched here.

Additional director general of police (Law and Order) Brij Lal said the drive was launched between 1300 hrs and 1500 hrs outside 4,225 schools and colleges of the state on Thursday. ''The figures available today indicate that 206 boys and men were arrested teasing girls and teachers,'' he said yesterday.

The maximum number of men arrested outside educational institutions were from Agra where 43 such elements were booked for breaching peace. ''We have also recovered weapons, live bullets, a camera and some drugs during the drive,'' he said adding that the drive would continue to check eve teasing and molestation.

The drive was launched following inputs that trouble makers thronged the gates of schools and colleges when classes ended in afternoons.

In Jaunpur, police recovered a unique pencil torch shaped camera from one Gurdial Singh. ''We found several objectionable pictures in the camera,'' the ADG said.

From Pratapgarh, police recoverd 300 estacy pills from a youth.

While in some cases the 'majnus' were left off in the presence of their parents, in other cases they were booked under various sections of the IPC.
