Relief from US to Indian flood victims

New Delhi, Aug 10: According to UN, South Asia is facing worst everfloods in the century. Northern states, mainly Assam and Bihar havereceived heavy rains leading to floods. In this regard, US ConsulateGeneral of India David C Malford has declared Rs 20 lakhs (,000) ascompensation for the victims.This amount will be transferred to PrimeMinister's National Relief Fund.

Inthe letter written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, US ConsulateGeneral says, 'This year has witnessed severe rainfall and floods whichresulted in thousands evacuating their place.The US government andcitizens have decided to grant compassionate amount for the victims'.

Amountis granted from Ambassador's Humanitarian Relief Fund. 'The USgovernment is willing to come forward to extend more help ifnecessary', says US Consulate General of India David C Malford.
