Turnover crashes by 8.8 pc in the first session on MCX
Mumbai Aug 10 (UNI) Turnover on Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) in the first session upto 1700 hrs today was Rs 4,302.3 crore, down 8.8 per cent from the previous day's corresponding session.
Trades numbered 81,006.
MCX Comdex -- the composite index of metals, energy and agri indices -- was down 0.77 pc at 2116.93 points. MCX Metal Index lost 0.72 pc at 2416.64 points, MCX Energy Index dipped 1.07 pc to 2206.37 points while MCX Agri Index lost 0.14 pc at 1762.17 points, a release issued by MCX said.
Bullion turnover was Rs 1205.38 crore, of which gold contracts accounted for Rs 725.39 crore and silver contracts Rs 479.99 crore.
Gold contract volumes were 8,227 kgs and open interest (OI) 10,352 kgs while silver volumes were 277,085 kgs and OI 513,240 kgs.
Gold contracts, including gold mini, shed between Rs 5 and Rs 36 per 10 gms. Gold October '07 contract was down 0.17 pc at Rs 8796 per 10 gms. Silver contracts, including silver mini, fell between Re 1 and Rs 21 per kg. The September contract was down 0.01 pc at Rs 17,266 per kg.
In the base metals segment, copper contracts turnover was Rs 883.83 crore. Volumes were 29,543,00 kgs and OI 15,889,000 kgs.
Copper contracts receded in a range of Rs 3.30 and Rs 4.40 per kg, with the August delivery contract down by 1.46 pc at Rs 297.15 per kg.
Turnover of all zinc contracts was Rs 872.32 crore with volume of 63,490 tonnes and OI of 43,230 tonnes. Zinc contracts fell between Rs 3.9 and Rs 4.05 per kg. Zinc August contract receded by 2.91 pc at Rs 135.3 per kg. Turnover of all nickel contracts was Rs 243.07 crore with volume of 2,228,500kg and OI of 2,344,750kg. The metal fell between Rs25.6 and Rs30.5 per kg. Nickel for August delivery lost 2.55 pc at Rs 1,075 per kg.
Turnover of all aluminium contracts was Rs 10.93 crore with volume of 1,046 tonnes and OI of 3,484 tonnes. Aluminium August contract was down 1.24 pc at Rs 103.65 per kg and September contract shed 1.22 pc to close at Rs 103.65 per kg. Lead contracts turnover was Rs 472.51 crore with volume of 39,630 tonnes and OI of 8,205 tonnes.
Lead for August delivery receded by 3.9 pc at Rs 117.20 per kg.
In the energy segment, crude oil contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 372.51 crore. Volumes were 1,287,600 barrels and OI 9,54,600 barrels. Crude oil August contract fell 1.27 pc at Rs 2882 per barrel. Natural gas turnover across all contracts was Rs 17.73 crore with volume of 656,000 mmBTU and OI of 2,107,000 mmBTU. Natural gas contract for August delivery was down by 0.26 pc at Rs 265.8 per mmBTU.
Among agri commodities, refined soya oil contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 118.17 crore with volume of 23,970 tonnes and OI of 37,120 tonnes. Soya oil for August delivery was up 0.02 pc at Rs 493.5 per 10 kg.
Guarseed contracts turnover was Rs 3.7 crore with volume of 2,150 tonnes and OI of 3,550 tonnes. Guarseed August was up 01.23 pc at Rs 1726 per quintal.
Potato (Agra and Tarkeshwar) witnessed a turnover of Rs 19.62 crores with volume of 30,000 tonnes and OI of 86,430 tonnes. Potato Agra August lost 0.51 pc at Rs 621.2 per quintal while potato Tarkeshwar August was up 0.4 pc at Rs 660.6/quintal.
Mentha oil contracts witnessed a turnover of Rs 34.83 crore with volume of 634 tonnes and OI of 992 tonnes. Mentha oil for August delivery was down by 1.01 pc at Rs 541 per kg.
Chana contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 5.72 crore, volume of 2,470 tonnes and OI of 3,800 tonnes. Chana for August delivery was up 0.13 pc at Rs 2259 per quintal.
Kapaskhali turnover was Rs 4.35 crore, volume 5,975 tonnes and OI of 12,715 tonnes. Kapaskhali for August delivery was up 0.03 pc at Rs 368.4 per 50 kg. Cardamom contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 9.9 crore, volume of 187 tonnes and OI of 381 tonnes. Cardamom August rose by 0.9 pc at Rs 516.6 per kg. Jute contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 6.21 crore, volume of 4,600 tonnes and OI of 4,280 tonnes.
Robusta coffee turnover was Rs 1.39 crore with volume of 180 tonnes and OI of 314 tonnes. Soyabean turnover was Rs 4.76 crore, volume 30,700 tonnes and OI 16,800 tonnes, the release added.
