TDP leader's padyatra politically-motivated: APCC

Hyderabad, Aug 10 (UNI) Denouncing the TDP Legislature Party Deputy leader T Devender Goud's 'padayatra' in Ranga Reddy district in favour of house sites for poor as politically motivated, the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today said peoples' problems would not be solved by conducting padyatras.

Talking to newspersons here, official spokespersons of the party P Venkata Rao and N Tulasi Reddy said the TDP leader had undertaken the padyatra to save his political base in Ranga Reddy district and not to solve the problems of poor people.

Stating that the TDP did not think about the distribution of land to landless poor and construction of houses for poor people during their regime, Tulasi Reddy said Mr Goud's padyatra was aimed at only misleading the public.

Referring to the remarks of CPI(M) State Secretary B V Raghavulu that the Congress was trying to divide the CPI and CPI(M), Mr Rao said it was not in the culture of the Congress to divide the Left parties. The Congress wanted both the CPI and CPI(M) to be united as both were friendly to his party, he added.

He said the Government and the party were always ready to discuss land problems with the Left parties. Digvijay Singh, incharge of party affairs in the state, discussed the issue with the CPI yesterday and was ready to discuss it with the CPI(M) also, he added.

Mr Rao said the main focus of both the Congress and the Left parties was to provide lands to landless poor in the state.

He said Andhra Pradesh was ahead of other states in the country in constructing houses for the poor people. The successive governments in the state have constructed 69.14 lakh houses so far out of 1.50 crore houses in the country, he added.

He said the Government, headed by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, has given utmost importance for the construction of houses for the poor people. Mr Goud was making allegations against the Government without verifying the facts, he added.
