Smart schools to be set up in UT
Puducherry, Aug 10 (UNI) With a view to enhancing the quality of education in the Union Territory and to make it accessible to poor students through the government schools, the administration would open Smart schools, Education Minister M O H F Shajahan said.
Talking to newspersons here yesterday, he said the administration propose to set up 80 Smart schools in all the four regions of the Union Territory at a cost of Rs three crore.
Chief Minister N Rangasamy would declare open the first school at Lawspet here today, the Minister said.
The students would be taught NCERT syllabus in English medium and exposed to flashcard system of teaching and computers, he said and informed that the student teacher ratio in the smart school would be 40:1.
The Chief Minister would also inaugurate a new scheme to provide pocket money of Rs 250 per year to the students from sixth standard to 12th standard in government schools, he added.
