'Re appreciation addresses work practices'

Chennai, Aug 10: Infosys CEO and Managing Director S Gopalakrishnan today said he was looking at the rupee appreciation in a medium to long-term perspective.

Talking to newspersons here, after inaugurating P G Senapathy Centre for Computing Resources at IIT-Madras, he said the rupee appreciation in the short-term was addressing issues like productivity, work practices and hedging.

"Productivity is a continuous issue. The second is about work practices, about working smarter," he said.

"Our main view is that we cannot predict how the currency is going to move...We look at a two quarter hedging strategy", he added.

To a query that most other Indian IT companies in China were expanding faster while Infosys had about 700 persons, he said the company was prepared to grow in that region. "Let the business drive the growth," he said adding Infosys had some internal plans to be more stronger in China, he pointed out.

On availability of talent pool, he said there was more competition for resources.
