New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) Editor of RSS mouthpiece 'Panchjanya' Tarun Vijay today condemned yesterday's attack on exiled Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen at Hyderabad, saying she was targeted by Muslim extremists because she espoused the cause of minority Hindus in her home country through her writings.

What happened at the Hyderabad press club was against the ethos of the country and the Constitution,'' Mr Vijay said.

''It is surprising that most of those who made so much hue and cry over the attack on the freedom of expression in the country were now keeping a studied silence on this issue,'' he told UNI.

Mr Vijay said Taslima had full right to write what she thought was right and give expression to her thoughts in this country.

The writer was being punished for fearlessly writing about the problems of minority Hindus. Those who were so much concerned about minorities here should now come forward to defend her, he said.

Ms Nasreen was injured by angry activists of the All India Majilis-E-Itihadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) led by MLA Ahamad Pasha Quadri, for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Muslims through her writings.

The writer had also incurred the wrath of fundamentalists at home after she openly expressed her thoughts on the issues of religion, feminism, and sexuality, an act which is an anathema to the traditional Muslim Society of Bangladesh.
