RRS to launch 'nation-wide' protest against Setusamudram project

Gulbarga, Aug 10 (UNI) The Ramasetu Rakshna Samiti (RRS) which is spearheading the movement against the Setusamudram channel project (SSCP), will launch a nation wide agitation on August 12 and 13.

Informing this at a press conference here today RRS state President Basavaraj Hiremath said that the Samiti had given 'Rameswaram Chalo' call on August 26 in which lakhs of people were expected to converge in the coastal town on that day to express displeasure over the destruction of Ramesetu bridge belonging to mythological period.

He said that all Hindus in India and abroad strongly believed that Ramasetu was constructed by Hanuman to lead the army of Sri Rama to Lanka. NASA had confirmed that the bridge was constructed by human and it was not formed naturally.

He announced that Samiti would observe fast on August 13 in Gulbarga expressing protest against SSCP. Abut 5000 devotees of Lord Rama would go to Rameswaram from Karnataka to participate in 'Rameswaram Chalo'.

Explaining the Ramasetu bridge natural significance, he said that Kerala was protected from the tsunami that struck Indian coast in 2005 because of Ramasetu. ''Destroying the bridge will hurt the sentiments of crore of Hindus,'' he added.
