Pre-Fab huts for BSF personnels posted at border

Jalandhar, Aug 10 (UNI) The Border Security Force (BSF) has acquired make-shift structure called "Pre-Fab Huts" for the comfort of its personnels posted at the border.

Punjab Frontier Headquarter IG Arvind Ranjan, while talking to mediapersons here today said,''These Pre-Fab Huts are installed on the land, which does not belong to BSF, otherwise we have also built some permanent structures on the land, which belongs to us.'' About cross-border smuggling of heroin, "so far BSF has seized nearly 48 kg of the contraband, while in 2006 the world largest border guarding force seized 74 kg of heroin," he added.

On the modus operandi of the smugglers, he said not much changes were seen in it, but now they have shifted from vulnerable areas to safer places.

Even today, the most common mode of smuggling is throwing packets of the contraband across the fence, but sometime they used pipes and river for smuggling purpose, IG, Arvind Ranjan said.

He also said on modernisation front, troops posted at the border are using night vision devices correctly and has also acquired, "Handheld Thermal Images" for night patrolling.
