Plug communication gaps, remain vigilant, JK DGP to security forces

Srinagar, Aug 10 (UNI) Asking security force personnel to remain vigilant to thwart any militant attempt to disrupt the Independence Day (ID) functions, State Director General of police Kuldeep Khoda directed security agencies to plug all communication gaps for affective results.

Chairing a high level meeting called to review the security arrangments for the ID, Mr Khoda urged the officers to brief their junior officers and other ranks to remain vigilant to thwart any militant attempt to disrupt the ID functions in the valley.

He directed the officer to plug all communication gaps so that detailed security arrangments made are implemented in letter and spirit.

The meeting was attended by senior officers from state police, Army, CRPF, BSF, IB, CID, Crime and Traffic.

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, was also present in the meeting.

Meanwhile, random search operations and frisking in different parts of the city, including historic Lal Chowk, Jehangir Chowk, Hari Singh High streets continued throughout the night.

All vehicles coming from outskirts and other district headquarters were being searched properly, passengers frisked and their identity cards checked before allowing them to enter the city.

CRPF and State police personnel were seen frisking the pedestrains in the city.

Official sources said the security forces are conducting random search operations and frisking people to thwart any miliant attempt to smuggle in arms and ammunition in the city for causing disturbances on or before the ID on August 15.

About half a dozen persons were arrested alongwith hand grenades when they were attempting to sneak into the city from north Kashmir.
