One killed and 12 injured in Assam explosion
Guwahati, Aug 10 (UNI) One person was killed and 12 including two police personnel were injured in three blasts in Karbi Anglong district of Assam today.
Ten people, including an assistant sub-inspector of police, were critically injured when an explosive-filled bag, planted by suspected Karbi militants, exploded in the heart of Diphu town in Karbi Anglong district of Assam this evening.
The explosion occurred at 1825 hours in the main market square of this headquarters town.
Local people had noticed a bag near a shop and immediately informed the police.
Police personnel rushed to the spot and as they were removing the bag to an isolated spot, the explosives kept in it went off.
The injured included assistant sub-inspector B Purkayastha and havildar T Phangshu.
The nature of the explosive has not been ascertained yet and the injury toll was likely to go up.
In twin blasts in Bokajan area of the district at about 2045 hours. one person was killed and two hurt.
the blasts took place at a locality Sukajan under Bokajan police station.
