Minister links terrorism to drawback in education

Hubli, Aug 10 (UNI) Karnataka Minister for Higher Education D H Shankaramurthy, expressing concern over engineering and medical students getting involved in terrorist activities, said ''there seems to be some drawbacks in our education system.'' Speaking after inaugurating a function organised at Karnataka University, Dharwad (KUD), he called upon the teachers to ponder over the matter and stressed the need for providing education that taught morality and social awareness among students.

Asserting that computers had led to an amazing development in the country, Mr Shankaramurthy said, the state government could provide jobs to only about six lakh people in the past 60 years, but the Information Technology (IT) sector generated 5.40 lakh jobs in a few years.

Earlier, participating at a function here, the Minister said the JD(S)-BJP government had accorded priority to education by granting permission to open 108 colleges in a span of 18 months.
