Madikeri, Aug 10 (UNI) The technical survey conducted in Kodagu to build a mini airport here has opined that an air port cannot come up in this area.

Official sources said that the experts said in the report that building of a mini airport in the district was not possible due to many hills in the area demarcated for airport and it would obstruct landing and taking off of aircraft.

Instead the state government has decided to sanctioned a wild life medical institute to Kodagu and it would be commissioned in 52 acres out of the land earmarked for airport.

The district had earlier requested the government to start a veterinary university in Kodagu. But the same got sanctioned to Hassan. However now the medical institute, first of its kind in the country, would come up in the district.

An officer had been appointed for the purpose of launching the project and he had sought land from the district administration.

The institute would provide opportunity for two years post graduate and doctoral degree studies in wild life medicine. Equipped with sophisticated lab and accessories, the institute would take up studies and conduct research about the genes and rejuvenation of endangered and extinct species of the wild.
