TN: Ketamine powder worth 2.5 cr seized

Chennai, Aug 10: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials seized 24.5 kg of Ketamine powder worth Rs 2.5 crore in the international market from a Kuala Lumpur-bound passenger and arrested him at the Chennai International Airport here last night.

Airport sources said Mohd Hanif Ahmed (55) was about to board the MH-181 flight to Kuala Lumpur, when he was arrested near the immigration counter.

He had a confirmed ticket from Chennai to Hong Kong via Kuala Lumpur.

Acting on specific information, the DRI officials arrived at the airport and proceeded straight to immigration counter and interrogated him.

As Ahmed gave unconvincing replies, his checked-in baggage was called for and opened, leading to the seizure of Ketamine powder. He was arrested and remanded in custody.
