Isolate communal and divisive forces, J and K Chief Minister

Srinagar, Aug 10 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has stressed the need to isolate the forces out to undo the gains of the freedom struggle by propagating communal and divisive politics and pitching one section of the society against the other.

He called upon people to inculcate the spirit of unity and patriotism, the hallmark of the freedom struggle, for fighting against communal, divisive and obscurantist forces in the country.

In a message on the 65th anniversary of the Quit India Movement he said millions of people under the towering leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Abul Kalam Azad led the country in the war against British imperialists and secured freedom for the nation.

He said the leadership laid the foundation of a society free of hatred and regional passions whose goal was justice for each citizen and development of all areas.

Six decades later, we have to launch a new fight for freedom against poverty and exploitation to let the benefits of independence reach the most downtrodden and deprived sections of the population, he said.

This year, the Chief Minister said August 9 has a special significance as the day was observed against the backdrop of the 150th anniversary of the First War of Indian Independence launched in 1857.

The Chief Minister said that today when some forces within and outside the country wanted to weaken India, the need was to close political ranks and fight them unitedly.

He said the people of the country should gather the similar strength, determination and commitment that saw them through in the freedom struggle, to nail down communalism, terrorism and obscurantism threatening the country today.
