Flood situation improves in UP as rains let-up

Lucknow, Aug 10 (UNI) The flood situation improved in Uttar Pradesh today with a let-up in the rains since last week.

According to Central Water Commission (CWC), a dip has been recorded in the water level of major rivers. Budhi Rapti in Kakrahi was flowing 9 cms below the danger level.

Ghaghra in Turtipar, Rapti in Bardghat (Gorakhpur) and Kwano in Chandradeep ghat were flowing 53 cms, 98 cms and 9 cms above the red mark.

According to reports from Gorakhpur division, water-borne diseases have started gripping Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Gorakhpur and Deoria districts.

Almost 300 villages are adversely affected due to flood in the division.

In Basti, over 80 villages of the worst affected 180 villages have been marooned.

Rescue operations were, meanwhile, underway by the medical authorities in the flood-hit areas.

The flood situation is continuously improving in Siddharthnagar, Lakhimpur Kheri and Basti.

About 5 lakh hectares of land had been affected in the flood.

In the last 24 hours, Bareilly recorded rainfall at 6 cms, followed by Bardghat (Gorakhpur) at 2 cms.

Meanwhile, the weatherman has predicted showers in the next 24 hours.
