Mumbai, Aug 10 (UNI) The BJP today accused the Congress of adopting double standards on the Srikrishna Commission report.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Jawadekar, while speaking informally to reporters here today, also maintained that the BJP does not think that Shiv Sena legislator Madhukarrao Sarpotdar, who has been accused of carrying licenced weapons in riot-hit areas, was also guilty.

Mr Javadekar claimed that Mr Sarpotdar had moved around the riot-hit areas in Bandra to maintain peace. Mr Sarpotdar, who was Sena MLA in 1993, was caught by the army while carrying three weapons, out of which only one was registered. He was taken in custody but later discharged.

Mr Javadekar said the Shiv Sena-BJP government had rejected the Shrikrishna Commision's report but had accepted some of its recommendations.

''The subsequent government's can change the erstwhile government's decisions but the Congress-NCP government did not do so,'' Mr Jawadekar said.

The cases of riots are pending in the court and it is for the court and the government to expedite the same, Mr Jawadekar said.
