CM inaugurates Smart school in Puducherry
Puducherry, Aug 10 (UNI) Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy today inaugurated the first Smart school in the Union Territory.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rangasamy, listing out the educational assistance being provided by the administration, said the dropout rate had come down considerably due to such assistances.
The administration was setting up smart schools here to raise the quality of education and also to ensure that poor student get good education through government schools.
As many as 80 smart schools would be set up in all the four regions of the Union Territory at a cost of Rs three crore.
The students would be taught NCERT syllabus in English medium and exposed to flashcard system of teaching and usage of computers. The student teacher ratio in smart schools would be 40:1.
While the focus would be on rural areas where there were no convent schools, the basic idea was to strengthen the base so that the students gain confidence as they grow up, according to Education Minister Mr Shajahan.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the 'Pocket Money' scheme to provide Rs 250 a year to the students of the government schools studying from sixth to 12th standard. Nearly 85,000 students would get the pocket money for personal spending.
