New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) today said the attack on the exiled Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen at Hyderabad yesterday was against the democratic and secular character of Indian polity and militates against the freedom of expression.
In a statement here, the Polit Bureau said one may have differences over the writings of Ms Nasreen or anybody, but this is not the appropriate manner to express dissent.
The Polit Bureau has demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government take firm action against the culprits responsible for this attack.
Ms Nasreen was attacked by an angry activists of the All India Majilis-E-Itihadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) led by MLA Ahamad Pasha Quadri yesterday for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Muslims through her writings.
The writer had also incurred the wrath of fundamentalists at home after she openly expressed her thoughts on the issues of religion, feminism, and sexuality, an act which is an anathema to the traditional Muslim Society of Bangladesh.
