AP CM constitutes high-level committee to study SC funds

Hyderabad, Aug 10 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today constituted a high-level committee to study the spending of funds allotted under the Special Component Plan for Scheduled Castes and Tribal Sub Plan.

Reviewing the functioning of Social Welfare and Tribal Welfare department under the Special Component Plan for SCs and Tribal Sub Plan, he said the Committee would comprise Tribal Welfare and Social Welfare Ministers and Secretaries of Planning, Finance, Tribal Welfare and Social Welfare Departments.

Dr Reddy said the Committee should study spending of funds in the first quarter, analyse where the funds were spent and where it was more necessary, and how this could be more purposefully spent for the uplift of SCs and tribals, and then recommend necessary measures to the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister said 16.2 per cent funds of the annual plan were to be spent for the development of SCs and 6.6 per cent for the uplift of STs. Sectors like education, minor irrigation, rural electrification and housing needed more focus and funds.

He exhorted the officials to optimally use the huge funds available for tribal development under various heads for the overall development of SC/STs and constantly monitor the spending.
