4 policemen wounded by protesting 'Kanwariyas'

Jaunpur, Aug 10 (UNI) Four policemen, including an outpost in charge, were grievously wounded after a protesting mob of 'Kanwariyas' pelted stones in Moradabadshahpur area here today.

'Kanwariyas' are Shiv devouts and undertake pilgrimage during the ongoing holy month of 'shrawan.' Irked over the death of five 'Kanwariyas', who were run over by a truck in Allahabad district yesterday, a mob staged protest at the Gorakhpur-Allahabad highway this morning.

The mob blocked the movement of traffic and pelted stones, in which police personnel including outpost in charge Kumud Shekhar Singh were wounded.

Besides, two police vehicles were torched by the professers.

Meanwhile, senior police officials had reached the spot.
