21 escape from juvenile home

Chennai, Aug 10 (UNI) As many as 21 juveniles housed in the Juvenile Justice Home at Vellore, about 150 km from here, escaped late last night.

Reports received at the headquarters here said the juveniles were housed in the home for various offences committed by them.Police have launched a search operation to trace them.

A report from Vellore said initially 22 inmates escaped from the home after assaulting Ethiraj, the policeman on security duty.

Later, one of the inmates was caught. On information, Vellore SP Arivuchelvam questioned Home Superintendent Venkatraman. All police stations in the district were alerted.

This is the second such incident. As many as 19 inmates ran away from the home two months ago. Of them 18 were caught.
