Hardwar, Aug 10 (UNI) After the rush of pedestrian kanwarias has almost ended, it is now peak time for Dak kanwarias to be on the move.

Dak kanwarias take kanwars containing Ganga jal, by buses, trucks, jeeps, motorbikes etc. Sources in the administration said nearly 5 lakh dak kanwarias departed yesterday from Hardwar to their destinations.

Nearly 10 lakh kanwarias left Hardwar today for their destinations in western UP, Delhi, Punjab and Haryana. The last two or three days of the kanwar teerth yatra, during which dak kanwarias leave Hardwar are the most crucial days for the administration, since the dak kanwarias speed fast on their automobiles to reach their destinations in fixed time.

The DIG (Garhwal range), Ashok Kumar who is camping here to supervise the security and traffic arrangements, told UNI today that the security has been beefed up and the civil police, the PAC and the RAF had been put on high alert on the entire kanwar yatra route.

"No untoward incident has so far been reported from any where in the district, though some violent clashes between the kanwarias and the local people and the police have been reported from other districts in the neighboring sates. It is really a matter of credit to the jawans who are working round the clock that the mammoth kanwar teerth yatra has so far been hassle free at Hardwar, the originating point of the yatra and where nearly 50 lakh pedestrian and dak kanwarias have so far congregated", said the DIG.
